Government agencies today face extremely high expectations. Constituents demand that they do more than ever, but agencies must carry out their missions with shrinking budgets and a labor pool that isn’t likely to grow. To satisfy those requirements, agencies must help their employees become more productive, while also controlling costs.
Technology helps, of course. By automating key civic processes such as licensing, permitting, inspection, planning and zoning, and code enforcement, agencies can use IT solutions to reduce the time, labor and money needed to deliver services to citizens. Replacing paper-based processes with digital ones, IT solutions also save money on office supplies and storage, and they make government operations more environmentally sustainable. And now that these solutions are available in the cloud — enabling implementation in weeks rather than months or years — even the smallest agencies can take advantage.
